I want to be detail-oriented and organized.

If I don't plan everything down to the minute I always forget something. I could prepare a document and then put the wrong telephone number down, in fact I did this on a set of birthday party invitations recently( even after two hours spent proofreading).

Help! What helps you with details and organization?

Being anal and OCD.

Crawl back into the womb, come back out and see if you came out as a different person. Seriously, this is an ingrained personality trait by adulthood.

do less.

throw out more, say no to more, etc. if you are overworked and frantic and rushing, you will make mistakes.

don't put off decisions, and don't multi-task. It's a sure-fire way to make mistakes and miss deadlines.

have someone else take a second proof of major things like invitations you are sending out. Delegate admin tasks to a partner (where is DH in all this? women always get stuck with the admin minutiae but obviously we are not always the best at it)

Just go slowly on the important things. also, hire an organizer (napo.net) if you need help setting up a few organization systems that work for you.

good luck.

This. Seriously. You don't want to be either or both! Be happy you don't always see all the mistakes.

They are two separate things. I am very organized but not at all detail-Oriented.

Don't spend 2 hours proofing a birthday invitation! You'll get judgement fatigue. Do detail work when you are fresh and can do it quickly without having to check & recheck.
