Sure -- it's spring break.

If you can travel on odd days -- e.g. leaving/returning on a Tuesday, you may do a bit better.

yes I am finding that hotels and flights to spring break destinations are charging high season rates - DC to Orlando for example.

Absolutely since Easter is generally surrounded before and after by spring break weeks for many, many schools.
