Tylenol Extra Strength and IVF?

Anonymous
I am starting an IVF cycle on Monday and looking to prepare for it. In my injection class at Shady Grove, they said Tylenol Extra Strength was the only pain medication you can take during the treatment. So my DH and I are looking for it in stores and couldn't find it so we went online. The search came back with 16 different ones! I can't remember what the nurse said what's in those other pain killers that I cannot have. Any idea? Help. Thanks

Do not take any medications other than Tylenol. Period. Researchers just published studies showing that NSAIDs (Aleve, ibuprofen, etc.) increase miscarriage risk even if taken 30 days before pregnancy.

Here's the good news. Extra strength Tylenol just has more of the same medicine in regular strength Tylenol so you can use that instead and should have no problem finding it. Extra strength Tylenol has 500mg of Acetaminophen per pill and regular strength has 325. That means that two pills of EST = 1,000mgs of Acetaminophen and three pills of RST = 975mgs. DO NOT take more than 3,000mgs of Acetaminophen in a 24 hour period.

FYI - Shady Grove has an after hours nurse line that you can call with questions like this.
