| What do you think is the best book about baking? |

The food people at Washington Post have been recommending a book by Lisa Yokelson lately.

King Arhur's Flour Bakers Companion. I own over 100 cook books and this is one that gets a lot of use. The 100 % Whole Wheat bread is great. Have not hit abad recipe yet. |
I love the KAF bakers companion and cookie companion. |
| Rose Levy Beranbum's Cake Bible or Pie and Pastry Bible. |
| I love Baking Illstrated by the Cook's Illustrated folks. I also have the King Arthur flour cookbook. Both get a lot of use in my house. I am a huge baker, cake decorator and candy maker. |
| For a handful of just wonderful recipes I'd go with Alice Waters' The Art of Simple Food. The cakes and pie crusts and cookies are all just so, so good. I am a good cook but had just failed at cakes and pie crusts for years. Don't know why, but her book worked for me. |
I haven't got this book but have tried Cook's Illustrated baking recipes from their other books. Everything has worked pretty well. I made their carrot cake and everyone who tasted it said that it was the best they had ever tasted. Unfortunately it took three hours to make. |
