My 2,6 years old son has lots of cavities and needs dental surgery with general anesthesia in hospital. Out dentist said to us the procedure will take two hours. Has anyone have experience like that? We're feeling very anxiuos.
We went through this when our son was almost 3. He had 3 pulpectomy's (baby root canal) and 4 crowns. It took about 2 hours under anesthesia. It was the scariest thing I had ever done at the time, but he came through just fine. He's 7 now, and while his baby teeth were a crumbly mess, I'm happy to report that his permenant teeth are absolutely normal thus far.
I need to clarify: we are not worried about the dental work - it will be relatively easy part given that a child is asleep. We are more worried about the GA itself which is quite long and possible complications from it on child's development. If others have done it - what was your experience before and after? What about others who were advised to do it but did not do it - how you dealt with it?
