| I started a new job last summer, newly created position matching my skill set. But it's so specialized and I know the material so well, it takes me no time to do it. In fact I have to wonder WTH my boss was doing that it was eating up so much time. The pay and benefits are good, but I'm not busy...AT ALL. It's soul sucking. I've asked for more work and it's not coming. They seem pleased with my work, but ugh, I need to be more busy and stimulated. Anyone else out there like this? |
|
Yes, I was. My job wasn't highly specialized, but it took all of a half an hour a day to do, excluding meetings. I searched out additional (appropriate) work and my boss shot me down. Boss had some severe inferiority issues and was always concerned about being outshone. I ended up deciding to stay home after my baby was born.
Presumably, your boss had other work to do in addition to the work that you took off her/his plate, so that's probably why it took them so much longer. Just start doing other work you can drum, there was a whole thread about this within the last month, I think, and there were lots of good ideas. |

This was me (at a trade association) for YEARS. There was a big layoff once during my tenure and I was practically hoping to be let go, because I couldn't understand how I could be employed full-time while so consistently asking for more work.
I quit when pregnant and they hired TWO people to replace me. Go figure. |

I've never had this situation. I can only imagine it, because all the jobs I've had I've been hopelessly overwhelmed, at one point working 70 hours a week (and this was at a non-profits arts association... hardly urgent work but my boss was an insane shrew).
Guess I would just surf the web for half the day. Sounds pretty good right about now. |
| No, i'm stressed to tears! Beware what you wish for. |
Stress over lack of work far exceeds stress from over work, as statistically shown and from my personal experience. Fear of losing one's job is greater when there is nothing to do. |

Yes.
I am now working on another Master's degree in my free time. My employer is paying for it but they don't know that I spend 90% of my day doing school work. |
| I was in this situation and the guilt of not being productive really ate away at me. I got a new job I really like. |
HA. No. |
