I'm wondering how difficult it is to get a job as a Receptionist/Admin Asst. etc. right now? I'm a SAHM and I would like to go back to work PT or even FT. I have an Associate Degree from NoVa in Administrative Support Technology and I have several years of experience working as an Administrative Assistant for a Trade Association in DC. My salary was about 42K with a benefits package. I have been home for about 12 months with DD.
I read about people's difficulties with their job search here all the time and it is a bit intimidating, especially when their credentials are much better than mine. |

Admin asst jobs are really tough because it's a position that lots of people can qualify to do.
I'm an Exec Admin Asst myself and am trying to find a position closer to home. Although I have over 12 years experience, I don't even get responses to my resume submissions. So, my resume is either crappy or the competition is stiff. I wouldn't be surprised if folks with Masters where applying for admin positions. Good luck to you. If you aren't too picky about salary (will start at $10-12), then you will hopefully have luck finding something quick. It seems like the jobs that pay more ($40-80k) are harder to come by and are probably going to folks with higher degrees. I even see some receptionist ads asking for a bachelor's degree!! Nutty world, huh? |

Thank you for the response. Sounds like it is a tough market right now. I worked a temporary PT job a while back, just for a few months and I was paid $20/hr. I guess that was really good compared to what you mentioned.
It will be difficult to compete with people who have more advanced degrees. I'm planning on going back to school soon to obtain my Bachelor Degree, but for now the Associate Degree will have to suffice. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! |
