I'm completely new to public schools- my eldest is in K.. dc is an advanced reader - reading chapter books- very good recall etc.. so the teacher told me this week that in the spring they'll give dc the obligatory dra but also the dra2 (dc scored the top score for dra when testing in fall - i think it was 193).
Anyway, i think it's silly to do the dra test again but i know this is how it works- i guess i'm wondering what do they do with a dra2 score? (the teacher told me like 3 kids will get the dra2 test- also advanced readers).. thanks for any help in understanding the testing.. newbie.. |

We had the same situation with my son a couple years ago. They will give dc the dra word analysis again and the dra2. They won't allow you dc to read past level 16, regardless of ability. It's "policy."
Without giving the dra2, they are not allowed to give a 5 on the reading section of the K report card. They're just silly formalities and really serve no purpose for kids in K who can really read. |
| OP here- thanks- I was wondering why since it;s not like dc's going to skip a grade or whatever.. ? |
