LOS ANGELES — Actors in adult movies filmed in America's pornography capital would be required to use condoms under an ordinance granted final approval Tuesday by the Los Angeles City Council. So are conservatives outraged at this attack on free enterprise? Or, are they pleased that Los Angeles has used its legal authority to curtail pornography? OR, are they concerned that the government has just mandated the use of contraceptives? |
They probably think it's an example of liberal inanity, so eager to promote condoms that we use them to put a minor limit on something they think we should ban entirely.
Note that I said "we", since I agree with the move, even while feeling vulnerable to the criticism I described above. |
OP, is everything you do and say in calculated anticipation of what some imagined conservative would think? |
I think it's charming that OP assumes American "conservatives" have some sort of philosophical consistency.
"Every fertilized egg is a person! Unless you're talking about IVF, in which case, throw as many persons in the trash as you like!" Even calling it "conservative" is giving too much credit. More like a random collection or prejudices and cultural resentments. |
As a conservative I can assure you I don't even think about what happens in LaLa Land. |
Most conservatives don't think birth control is wrong.
Condoms for porn stars is not about birth control. Other than that I find it hard to believe conservatives care. This isn't really a First Amendment issue. It barely adds to the general blanket of employee safety regulations we have. And it was done by a state, and states have more power to have detailed regulations. |
No. |
Then why do conservative groups have so much to say about the evil influence of Hollywood on American culture? |
My post is about the conundrum. Of course I don't think they have a shred of consistency. |
Then why do they oppose teaching high school students about it. |
Because they think discussions about sexuality are family matters and not government-run school matters. Most conservatives use contraception. |
But according to their principles, shouldn't it be decided by each state whether it's up to family or school, rather than by the fed? |
What? No. The Constitituon gives states more of certain kinds of power than the Feds. That doesn't mean all things should be done by the state. Many things should be done by neither government. |
So true! And why is it that they supposedly care so much about the poor aborted fetuses, but nothing about the children born into poverty. I never could understand such logical inconsistency. If you call yourself pro-life, why do you not support all life? |
I don't believe the porn industry will grind to a halt. I think preventing STD's or HIV is very important. |
