Infertility Support and Discussion

My first baby was from an IVF cycle and now I have only one frozen embryo. I know the procedure to use the embryo is not the same as an IVF since I will not have to produce all the eggs again but not sure what I will have to go through in order to get my body ready to accept the transfer into my uterus. Has anyone done this?
Also, wondering if anyone used both frozen and fresh embryos combined? Not sure this is even common practice or not but if so, I will consider for sure. Last time the docs transfered two embryos and I was pregant with twins for about 11 weeks and then lost one of them. With only one frozen available, coupled with my age (39), I wonder if I wouldn't be better off with more than one embryo being transferred again. |

I don't think I've heard of combo fresh and frozen embryo transfers, but I guess it would be possible if you only produced one embryo from a fresh cycle. Unless you have a history of poor egg quality -- which it does not sound like, I think the Dr's will be hesitant to transfer more than two embryos.
Things to consider: 1) How old were you when you did the fresh cycle that produced this embryo? 2) Are you paying for this out of your pocket or are you covered by insurance? If covered by insurance, what are the stipulations? For example, our policy is 3 IVF attempts per a live birth. After our 1st fresh cycle (which did not take), we tried a FET. That did not take either. We still had embryos leftover, but did a FET that we paid for ourselves so that it would not count against our insurance policy max. Good thing we did that, because we needed another fresh cycle which worked. And important point here is that it turns out we had poor embryo quality and we ended up doing PGD on the last cycle which was successful. Note however that some insurance companies will count cycles that you pay for against their limit -- we got lucky. 3) Talk to your RE, I'm sure he/she would have some good input. |
