Dr. Lang

Anonymous
I've searched the archives while looking for pediatricians and have seened very mixed reports on Dr. Lang. Many posters have reported leaving the practice due to their frustrations with admin staff, but other posters have said that those problems have been resolved. I'm trying to sort of piece the information together. Can any current patients of Dr. Lang provide feedback - are there long waits? is the staff rude? are considering leaving?

Thanks for any advice.

I'm sorry, since I'm a former patient which is not what you asked for in responses. But honestly while there are always lots of complaints about various practices (esp wait times) I've just never seen or heard anything approaching the frustration with Dr. Lang's practice. It's hard to reconcile with how lovely she is on the consult, and (in our experience) during the first few visits as well. But she simply can't run her practice effectively - there are too many horror stories. It's not just the administrative staff either, it's really the level of care you receive. Look at the DCUM listserv archives too. There was a post not that long ago (a few months) that appalled me.

I used to think the hassles were worth it, but having switched I can tell you that is definitively not the case. Which is why I'm commenting even though you really want (and should have) the views of current patients.

I don't know how recent the posts are that you were looking at...we left the practice about 6 months ago due to the problems you described. I too didn't really have any issues with the clinicians, although the NP who we liked left the practice, but I just don't think it's worth the headache. We found another doc who we are so much happier with. I also have to say that if you are a first time mom, like I was, I found it especially bothersome because the practice is just too busy to provide any kind of personalized care for your questions.

I completely disagree with the above comments. I'm a first time mom and have nothing but wonderful things to say about this practice. Dr. Lang's staff and other dr's have answered all my questions at the office and have called me back when I've called in. I never feel rushed when I go there and I have never waited very long. I really like Dr. Amy Sage.

I also completely disagree with the PP's who were dissatisfied.

I switched to Dr. Lang about two years ago, and have been very happy with the care that both of my children receive. The receptionists are very helpful, and have really come through for me when my daycare has made last-minute demands for shot records . I've always been able to get same-day sick appointments for my kids. The nurse practictioners give great shots and remember the babies. Dr. Sage is great, and I'm warming up to Dr. Bradley.

Our child was born in April so we've only been going to the practice since then. So far, it's been wonderful. We've had short waits, but nothing terrible, and each doctor has been completely attentive and helpful during our visits. We've called with questions twice, and each time our call was returned quickly and our questions were answered completely.

OP here - thanks for the responses. As a first time mom I imagine I'd have lots of questions and am most concerned about the level of clinical care. For those who switched practices, do you mind sharing the names of your new physicians?

We switched to Capital Medical Group, on Conn Avenue in Chevy Chase MD. It's a big practice, but we love the doctors all of whom have been patient and provided great, attentive care. No waits, same day sick visits (almost always in the AM), and quick call-backs from the triage nurse for questions. All in all, a vast improvement.
