Spoiled chicken WF-Georgetown--Anyone else?

Anonymous
For about the 4th time in a row, we have opened up a package of chicken from the Whole Foods in Georgetown to find that it has spoiled. The kicker is that the "sell by" date hasn't even occurred.

Has this been happening to anyone else?

I hate their chicken, but I've heard of it happening lots at Whole Foods.

That happened to one of their turkeys at Thanksgiving.

Take it back and get your money back. They need to know about this.

They get their shit from China just as the rest do. It's just in a fancier package.

losers for thinking otherwise

Yes! I live in Georgetown and have thrown away their children several times because it smelled so strong when I opened it. It was definitely spoiled.

Also, I've noticed that it's not well trimmed - it's sort of disgusting. Someone lazy or inexperienced is trimming and packaging it.

I wish I brought it back, but I'm too lazy, it smells terrible and I don't want it in the house, and I can never find the receipts anyhow. But next time I will.

OMG, PP here. I didn't throw away any children!!!

You don't have to bring back the spoiled chicken, just the receipt.

I have thrown away my lazy, spoiled, bad smelling children several times, but they always walk back into the house. Sigh.

I think I posted this on another thread, but I've had similar issues wegmann's. I've taken foul smelling chicken back several times. I finally asked to speak to the meat manager. He smelled what I was returning and said that it wasn't spoiled. He said the strong, foul smell was off-gassing and we just needed to rinse the chicken off. I told him thanks but no thanks. I wasn't about to eat chicken that smelled like that. It turned my stomach.

We haven't had any issues in a few months now. Perhaps they solved their issues.

OP here-- actually I took the chicken back, because after the 2nd time, I started saving receipts. So I was able to get credit for 1 of the chickens spoiling for the 3rd time.

Georgtown PP-- I have noticed that the chicken isn't that well trimmed either.

To their credit, they didn't give me any trouble, but the last time, we were having people over for dinner, and we didn't have time to go and buy replacement chicken, so we had to scramble and come up with a "Quickfire" replacement dish.

I am so irritated that I think I might have to start shopping at the Tenleytown WF, though it is such an unpleasant place to shop.

If it's an ongoing issue complain to the store manager. What good will it do to vent here?

I don't get this type of post. Obviously she's posting here because it informs others that there's a problem with buying chicken at that store. I'm glad to know.

What's so unpleasant about Tenleytown? Too many middle-class folks, right?

We order all our chicken from the South Mountain Creamery. It comes from a local farm that they've partnered with.

It comes frozen, but it's never spoiled and tastes really, really good.

It's about $8.00 for two larger breasts but worth every penny.
