Sweet, well behaved, curious with long attention span ,and shares well. In other words: the perfect child.
Make sure your kid can read and knows how to write their full name. If s/he can draw clearly, even better.
It's called a playdate for a reason. Many or most of the applicants are bright, engaging children. The playdate allows school personnel to observe how the applicants interact with other children and how they respond to questions and to the remarks of others in a group setting.
Depends on the school. Some do assessments on skills and others do more of an observation.
Processing speed is key.
Most of them do "circle time" to see if the child can sit still and follow directions in a group. They also usually pull the children aside individually and do some simple exercises -- draw a man (the more complex the figure, the better), draw shapes, write your name, etc). They observe how the child plays with others. They also note how the child "separates" from the parents. Be prepared to just have a very quick "goodbye" when you get there -- they want to see how your child reacts. They will sometimes have name tags laying out when you arrive, and ask the child to find his or hers.
