Kind of annoyed... Peapod gave me eggs (today) that say use by Jan 14

I know I can still use them, but till when? And don't you think that Peapod should give customers eggs at least a week before the "use by" date? I'm not going to use a dozen eggs over the next two days. Yeesh.

Call them an they will handle it but they do suck anyway.

Wow, you are really staring down the barrel of a Caucasian crisis.

Are you sure it doesn't say sell by?
Eggs are fine past their date, and if you hard boil then, older eggs are easier to peel.

This is OP. 22:35, I know it's a white whine. So I figured DCUM is a perfect place to complain about it. But really, isn't there some validity to my post? I know I can use eggs past the "use by" date, but don't you think Peapod should hedge their bets by packing eggs at least a week out? I'm sure a lot of their customers are less reasonable and rational than I am and would raise holy hell about it.

Long story short, how long past the use by date can I use these eggs?

Hi OP. I use Peapod religously even thought sometimes they really suck. I just hate going to the grocery store and love the convienence of shopping online.

If you call or email Peapod and let them know of the issue, they will refund the money right away.

A few orders ago I ordered two 18 packs of eggs. One pack - half the eggs were lose in the grocery bag. The other pack - half the eggs were broken in the carton. Got all my money back and kept the eggs that were okay.

As for how long the eggs will keep, check out this link:

Definitely call them. They will give you a refund. But maybe more importantly, they need to know so they can improve their quality control.

Eggs keep for weeks. Google it. And if one has gone bad you will know it by the smell as soon as you open it.

You can test if an egg is bad without opening it. Does it float? Then it's bad. The sulfur gas in a bad egg makes it float.

Just like witches.

I would be irritated too OP. You are paying for a service and you are getting crap. You need to call them and complain. I wouldn't buy eggs with that date at the grocery store. I don't care if they last forever. By the time you get them at the store they are probably months old anyway.

I use eggs a month past the date on the carton. They're fine.

But they shouldn't be sold so late. When you choose to use them is up to you. When I buy something I want it to be fresher than that.

Not a problem. Eggs are good well past that date. I use eggs a month past the date and they are FINE.
