tooth extraction for 5 yr old with GAD and HFA

Anonymous
My just turned 5 year old girl needs to have an infected molar removed. The dentist thinks that she will do okay with the local anesthesia, but she offered to have it done at Children's with general anesthesia as well. My daughter has HFA and generalized anxiety disorder and takes Fluoxetine for the anxiety. She is very anxious at the dentist but cooperates with lots of encouragement.

Has anyone had to make the same decision? I am leaning toward having it done at the dentist because I am worried that general anesthesia might be equally traumatizing for her. Not to mention the risks. How long does it take to remove a baby tooth?

Ugh. Any advice is welcome!

Try Dr. Richard Meltzer in Aspen Hill (Rockville) Maryland. They do in office sedation dentistry and my HFA DS did really well with him.
