Nothing is pure merit and nobody here has the full picture of various applicants. Lots of schools don’t admit perfect kids.
At STA to many it does seem like they are looking for a certain type of family and being that type of family is a plus. That’s different from a conversation about pure merit. What is merit anyway? |
What kind of family do you think they’re looking for? |
Ironically, you are whining into the ether. |
Your kid couldn’t score in a game without you doing it for him. But you would want him to be picked. I bet you tell the refs “do you know who I am?” |
Ones with connection. |
Really, what is merit? You cannot be serious to ask that. |
Straight A’s is not something to dismiss. Do you care about education? Seemingly, you do not which is not understandable to why you are on a thread discussing a school. |
You keep saying your son is at a school “ranked one below St. Albans.” What ranking are you talking about? Something silly like Niche? You sound naive. If your son was applying for 7th from another DC boy’s school, I assume you were at St Anslems? Are you the parent always bad mouthing that school? Maybe STA sensed you are a PITA? Just a thought… |
Why do you stalk people on private school threads? Do you stalk on other topics as well? |
Maybe you should take a break from dcum. Just a thought… |
If it’s silly, why do you know a lot about niche and rankings. Seems you follow it. |
It was probably his recommendations. Have you had any issues with the current school? |

At some point it's just random OP.
A school like STA will have 10 open spots for 7th grade and 40 (or 60 or 80 or whatever) boys who are great candidates. Many 100% qualified kids get turned down. It happen each and every year. Do you think there are only 10 qualified boys who apply for the 10 spots and then everyone else just happens to have a major flaw in their application? Of course not. There are MANY equally qualified kids who get turned down at every admissions point, every year. |
No, needed 2 recommendations and spoke to both and they were terrific. One actually contacted me asking why I was seeking other school. He wanted to know if we were unhappy and to know if there was something they could do to keep us. Firmly believe that we have no connection to the school as the reason. Nothing was missing and or deficient. |
