That is just conpensatory damages. The punitive damages will be announced on Friday.

This is too little. Can other parents also sue Alex Jones?

This is not all of the parents and not all of the trials. There are two more coming up.

What are compensatory damages?

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/compensatory-damages.asp#:~:text=Compensatory%20damages%20are%20awarded%20in,was%20attributable%20to%20the%20defendant.
Compensatory damages are awarded in civil court cases where loss has occurred as a result of the negligence or unlawful conduct of another party. To receive compensatory damages, the plaintiff has to prove that a loss occurred and that it was attributable to the defendant.

Compensatory damages are reimbursing the plaintiffs for damages they incurred as a result of the actions by the defendent.

In this case, the punitive damages should be much larger than the compensatory damages.

Did I read there’s a separate trial for punitive damages? Please no more. That judge has shown so much restraint. I would punch him the nose mid- lie.

Not a separate trial. A separate decision. That will be given tomorrow (Friday).

+1 and there’s a statutory cap on punitive damages so the max is $40M.

After Wednesday’s revelation that an attorney for Alex Jones accidentally turned over a copy of his entire cellphone to the lawyers suing him on behalf of Sandy Hook parents, a couple of things were obvious. The first was that Alex Jones must be turning redder than ever; the second was that the Congressional committee holding hearings on the January 6 insurrection would probably want those records, too. In an emergency hearing this morning, an attorney for the Sandy Hook parents, Mark Bankston, confirmed that he’d had requests from “several law enforcement agencies,” including the January 6 committee, to turn over the phone data, and that he intends to do so “immediately.”

Why do I have a feeling that Jones' attorney "accidentally sent the text messages on purpose. Seems odd. After finding out that he sent it, he didn't claim client-attorney privilege, either. I wonder if their strategy was to then request a mistrial, but that backfired it seems, becaue the judge said no mistrial.

Such a tangled web. And so great to see Jones get his comeupance. Now, for the Insurrectionists, and then hopefully, the grand master himself.. Trump

Maybe. But I doubt it. Doing that on purpose could get you disbarred. But I expected to see Jones’ lawyer (Andino Reynal) be a total clown and he has a legit bio. Quite surprising he would blow it all on someone with no redeemable qualities like Jones. Especially if he could be found suborning perjury because he must have realized Jones was lying that there were no texts on Sandy hook since he had them in his possession.

Jones’ attorney is no good guy. He said his client would offer 1$ In damages for the pain and suffering inflicted. That’s just insulting given that his client and his supporters hounded and threatened these people til they had to hire security and move multiple times. AnDino didn’t need to say somethng so nasty

If Jones was only willing to offer $, then his attorney doesn't have a choice in presenting it, right? Even if he did try to talk him into a more reasonable amount?

I guess. But he seems pretty incompetent. The parents' lawyer told Andino Reynal (Jones' lawyer) that he had all the text messages after he got them and Reynal didn't do anything to mark them as privileged.

I think the Jones' lawyer is certainly scuttling their career with this gigantic mistake, because even if they claim they did it by "accident on purpose" to support the right side, it's still a breach of protecting their own client, which will likely not make any future clients line up at their door...

It’s not plausible that Jones’s attorney turned over all the texts on purpose. He has nothing to gain and much to lose by doing so. He’s not some poor conflicted man who wanted to help the Sandy Hook families. Just a day or two before the text debacle came out he flipped off the opposing counsel publicly in this high profile case.

Jones is such a scum bag that even though he’s rich, I think he probably had trouble obtaining quality counsel, much like Trump. This clown was who was willing to represent him.

What is wrong with this lawyer? His bio says he was appointed by Eric Holder as a Federal Prosecutor Texas but he seems almost and stupid and malignant as his client?
https://www.thedailybeast.com/alex-jones-lawyer-f-andino-reynal-apologizes-for-flipping-the-bird-at-sandy-hook-defamation-trial
Alex Jones’ lawyer apologized Thursday for giving the finger to a lawyer for Sandy Hook parents suing the right-wing conspiracy monger for calling the school massacre a hoax. Things got heated in the Texas courtroom on Wednesday as F. Andino Reynal and Mark Bankston verbally sparred over video clips from Jones’ InfoWars show that the plaintiffs had prepared.

Did Reynal personally give Bankston the texts or could it have been some paralegal/assistant who had nothing to lose/hated Alex Jobes so they were like “f*%# it” and “accidentally” gave the texts?
