People somehow seem to think that banning, bayonet lugs, flash hiders, adjustable length stocks, and grenade launcher attachments mean that semi-autos were banned.

If you can't do basic research on a subject, you can't have an informed opinion.

Yes, there were some exceptions. Nonetheless, there was an assault weapons ban.

Cavitation is the hole created in the body a few inches inside.

To get an idea of what it looks like watch episodes of myth busters where they use ballistics gel.

I couldn't find a great one for rifles but here is a comparison for pistols.

That pic isn't showing what you think it is.Gel is less elastic than tissue, this is one of the draw backs to gel testing and a major reason that gel doesn't represent what actually happens to tissue very accurately.

What you are seeing in that pic is what is know as the temporary stretch cavity, it is purely a result of the gel having very low elasticity. The darker line in the middle is the permanent cavity, and represents actual damage, not just stretch marks


Virtually all rifle rounds will create significantly greater permanent cavity than any handgun cartridge is capable of. Handguns simply don't have the barrel length for the projectiles to get up to the same speeds.


That being said, the .223 round isn't unique to AR15's, there are dozens of different rifles available chambered I'm that cartridge. So that doesn't answer the question of what sets the AR15 apart and makes it so dangerous. The reasons given so far are pretty universal to all modern small caliber rifles, they aren't things that make the AR15 somehow special

Nothing makes the AR-15 “special” other than it looks different than regular old rifle. There are guns with the exact specs as the AR-15 that just are not black and “Rambo” looking, but people don’t realize that.
