Thoughts on DCI, Latin or BASIS

New poster who has worked my way through most of this thread. If you think anyone is dumb enough to buy your version of DCI having disciplinary problems when not one single concrete example of how it's 25% of what goes on there, you are truly and completely mistaken.

Give credible examples of this chaotic discipline environment that you are alleging, or just keep with random, generalized posts that say and prove NOTHING. But without concrete examples, the fact that you're full of it is abundantly clear.

Read more of the thread then if you're not finding examples

More examples:

Whole classes of PE being forced to come inside because of the ones who can't behave outside

Holes being punched in bathroom walls

Athletic teams being penalized/losing facility access because of the kids who can't behave

I'm not a DCI parent, but these appear to be very specific examples. Can anyone refute/explain them?

I'm a LAMB parent with children in lower elementary, but I'm engaged with some upper elementary kids (including current 5th graders). Unfortunately, I'm aware of several parents who will not be sending their kids to DCI due to concern about the "tech focus" and discipline issues. Perhaps they're blowing smoke or perhaps it's genuine concern. Since I'm a long ways away from having to be concerned myself, I'm happy just to listen to their concerns. Whatever the case, the school should address whatever the concerns are in a more transparent fashion. Shutting down critiques of the tech focus is not helpful. Perhaps concern about that is helicopter parents ruck amuck. But, the school should just acknowledge the concern and refute it with science. Unless they can do that by the time it's my kids' turn, we won't be going.

BASIS parents fight all the time - on this board, to the detriment of BASIS
BASIS has discipline issues as well -
for example, the girl's bathroom on the first floor is constantly trashed - no holes, but they have taken the towel thing off the wall etc
dismantled some things that I would not have expected and require some strength - and this is the girls!

those are frustrating and specific examples, but I bet you could find these types of incidents at all public middle schools across the city, we just aren't talking about them on this board. I remember having to come in from recess in middle school b/c kids in my class didn't behave.

BASIS is the epitome of unethical institution. They use comp exams to boost the grades of certain students and totally plummet the grades of others -- especially at the high school level

And what about the unethical DCPS practice of social promotion??? And fraud?

How much homework do kids at DCI, Latin and Basis get each day? Thanks.

Basis - my kids have had 1-2 hrs in middle school. Slightly more in high school.

There are no comp exams in high school - unless you are Alg 2 as a high school student.

Fraud is synonymous with BASIS. This is not an opinion.

There was a hole in the drywall in the bathroom and some kids messed with it, making it larger. But this is the example that someone blows up as an example of a discipline problem? Or that a PE class was brought inside because the kids were talking and not listening to instruction? Oy. Best wishes as you navigate middle school.

What changes would you like to see made to their 'tech focus'?

Different poster but I think kids should not have access to cell phones during the school day when they are in middle school. Not sure why school allows it given that there is no academic benefit. Seems crazy.
