The pets are the sticking point in a lot of those big apt buildings. We looked at one somewhere on mass Ave zoned for mann. Fantastic apartment--loved it. But everything about it was designed for cars.

I am not sure if that's the area you meant or not... I told the real estate agent van ness, but I wasn't sure where we were.

There's a nice farmer's market in downtown SS on Saturdays:

I meant Conn Ave, but yeah I guess the pets an issue for apartments.

Good luck, I wish we could all meet you and be your friend when you arrive!

You'll have a few years to get the lay of the land for middle school. You may have to move, eventually, but there are significant school boundary issues in play right now - nothing is certain for anyone.

I disagree. I think the Hill= Park Slope. If you want a Clinton Hill vibe, you'd need to go to H street or Bloomingdale but there aren't great local school options.

The link below looks interesting. altho his comment about "van ness st" and 3 blocks to both the Tenley and FH metro does not make sense - one of those can't be true. But if this is really on Van Ness St. It is likely IB for Hearst

i still like this one too

also - you could post on the Hearst or Tenleytown Yahoo group list servs to inquire about potential rental options.

go to yahoo groups and search for Hearst or Tenleytown and then join in order to post

OP, I really think if you want to remain carless there are much better neighborhoods for you where you can rent a house.

I'm confused, is this a permanent move or did you mention only being here for 2 years. Makes a big difference when considering middle school.

3801 Connecticut Ave Apartments are Pet Friendly (incl dogs) - not sure how big apts are or what fees are for pets

the building is IB for Hearst and you can walk through the park to shorten walk

4411 Conn Ave says IB for Hearst and allows dogs too, probalby trickier walk to school

You can use car share and shop at whole foods in Silver Spring. It is right there.

Walking is better!

Source for this? Right now I have heard only rumors and one article said that based on the proposed square footage of the new building a Trader Joe's would be unlikely.

We're putting in an application for Shepherd, getting it together right now. Uncertainty is killing me. This is not a temp move, I think that was someone else who had one, but since we're moving into a rental, we can always move after the lease ends. I really want to see what it's like to have a car and a yard and live in a semi-burb. We can explore the city and see what we like there more later, as needed. Or at least this is the plan? Who knows. Now at least in the short term, I have a Brooklyn apartment to declutter and pack.
