| Surely you understand that many Feds are excepted and working without pay, and also no one wants to hire someone who might quit the next day. But yes - some ATCs are leaving their shifts to drive uber, according to WTOP |
Are you this dumb IRL? |
| I’m shocked how people with two incomes don’t have emergency savings. |
| Agree. The majority of people are terrible with money. |
i'm not allowed to work another job unless cleared by ethics first. i'm not actually sure if those folks are working; and of course if they are, they are working without pay and with no ability to seek other employment themselves. |
For a young family that has kids in daycare, burned a mountain of cash for a down payment, I think you are very out of touch with why there is so much anger about inequality these days. First off, many Feds are married to lower income earners, such as teacher — they need someone with a more local job than the HoCo commute to HQ in DC. (This is like half my office). Not everyone is a dual GS15. That is just not enough spare income to build up 2 months of mortgage and daycare and living expenses in any reasonable time. And you can’t drop daycare because it’s usually a year long waitlist to join. |
| Can we stop victim blaming? Housing is historically unaffordable, high inflation, wealth concentrated at the tip by billionaires. That’s the story here. |
|
OP, there are so many people with terrible money management. Unless they grew up in a family that talked about money and had enough money that they were able to save and teach their kids to do the same, they don’t have that mentality or knowledge. What seems basic to you isn’t basic to everyone.
If you plan to get married one day, this is an important issue to be aligned on with your spouse. It’s good for you to learn now that not everyone handles their money the same way you do. |
| Oh and if we use our emergency savings then what happens if there is an emergency? We are both working without pay. It is very stressful there is no end in sight. So as mentioned several times in this thread stop worrying about other peoples’ money and have some compassion. There is no end in sight. Shocker most people don’t work for free and have indefinite savings, even those smug ones in the private sector. For what it’s worth in 2013 my student loans were $900 a month. Paid off now and replaced by tuition and college savings and medical bills. |
Bull shit. You can’t uber, taskrabbit, dog walking, baby sitting, door dash? |
. This is ridiculous. Talk to me when you are also paying for piano lessons, two sets of braces or have a kid about to go to college in the next couple of years. It does not take much to change from the comfort of where you are to completely wrung out. Life happens and paycheck flies out the window especially in dc. |
. Oops that reply was not meant for you, it was meant for the smug person. Sorry! |
It surprises you to learn a lot of people live paycheck to paycheck? |
Not without ethics approval. |
You cannot without getting clearance from the ethics office. Most of whom are also shut down. Why are ignoramuses posting here? |
