It is normal. Have you not been in the FCPS system? We have been here for years and years. Summer is always 9 to 10 weeks. This year we have a 9.5 week summer.

Before FCPS moved to start before Labor Day weekend (which was ~2017), summer break averaged 10.5 weeks. It now averages 9.5. Because there is such little happening after SOLs and AP exams, many of us would prefer that summer break is longer and required instructional time was more condensed Aug/sept-may. I say this as a member of a household where both parents work FT and my kids span ES and HS.

Yes, well, prepare for continued disappointment. I would love to have a 9 weeks on, 2 weeks off schedule with an 8-9 week summer. But I'm a realist and understand that is unlikely to happen anytime soon. You guys clamoring for a longer than 10 week summer should be realists as well.
