And for the hard, thankless job that it is, these employees deserve high-paying jobs to land in within CO when they are negligent. In a lot of places in the world, this doesn't happen. |
As long as they get rid of seniority as a factor when deciding who to lay off. |
+1 - Did you know that schools have an equity specialist assigned to them? Has anyone ever met theirs or even know their name? I don’t. |
No to both. My previous school had an equity specialist who was on campus several times a week and always visible in the hallways so everyone knew him, but I thought it was because he was either buddies with the principal or overseeing their work. That school had issues though which is why I left. I had no idea my new school has an assigned equity rep. We also have a CFT person who I have see twice this entire year and they once jokingly complained about being stretched thin. |
A)Not everyone in CO is negligent, B) In a lot of places in the world teaching and administration is very different, C) In a lot of places in the world teaching due to corruption higher paying jobs is exactly where negligent people end up. |
| There has been a lot of sketch crime at mcps this year. We have to suspect that teachers have been reporting what they see. Even though teachers are mandatory reporters many need to go because it's making the school system look bad. Time for retaliation. |
Inflation is ~3.5% and the budget is increasing by ~5.5%. If you adjust for inflation, as you suggested, the budget is still larger. |
I like our SDT as a person, but she doesn’t do anything to help with instruction itself. Instead she just runs mandated trainings and assists with testing. She is often absent for her own or family illness. As a chronically ill person myself, I am sympathetic, but she doesn’t do anything when present. At most, she will provide Google links. My prior SDT was really hands on. When I wanted to try a new technique, she modeled it with my kids, did it along side me, and then observed while I did it so she could give me feedback. |

They should lay off and cut salaries of admin. if they take away there incentive to pressure and coerce teachers to fraud the numbers and ignore the crime we will have higher standards of learning as well as safer schools for students. Teachers dont want to commit fraud anyway. Take away the corruption and save money, grow teachers, create strong self disciplined students. It's a win all around. Just make fraud and crime illegal again from an administrative standpoint.

My SDT is the same. She facilitates poorly planned meetings and sends out lots of AI generated emails, but never develops staff. SDT in middle school is kind of a scam. There are also Central Office staff who manage the SDTs. So wasteful. |
The cross-functional teams are a joke - Taylor developed this as some big help to schools, but I often hear they are ghose employees. How about firing them? I'll bet they make great money. |
I'm delighted to hear of a staff development teacher who knows how to coach - that is especially what new teachers need. |
Same where I’m at (HS). Love her, but I feel like the only benefit from our PD sessions is that we are helping her to justify her job. At least ask them to teach a couple of classes instead of just a few meetings per month. My colleagues at another HS said their SDT hasn’t held meetings all year. They’re not sure what his function is. |
Most of us are not getting raises at all let alone colas so these extra taxes will hurt us for those not higher income. A lot of my neighbors at some point plan to leave as $6-7 in property taxes alone for a crummy little house is not worth it or affordable. |
Maryland is slowly going the way of CA and NY. High income earners are leaving or not coming to MD because many roles are remote. My company has numerous executives who fly in and stay at hotels during the week, then go home Thursday night. They negotiated this as part of their packages. |
