Is there an independent school that exposes children to non-European cultures and religions?

I asked a version of that question pages ago -- answer was more than one -- though one was a usual suspect.

Can't imagine it's a guy. If so, he does literary drag well!

I asked how it was possible for children to learn much about the rest of the world's rich history when they spent years and years only on their own country. Believe it or not, I would be looking for these things anywhere I lived. The utopia may not exist, but wouldn't it be nice if children all over the world were able to learn in this manner? I think some of you do agree, and some of you do not. Even if the utopia does not exist, I figured that some schools probably do a better job that others. This board has actually told me which schools do a better job, so thank you. I am not interested in the Oneness School or Yu Ying - I don't think either provide top notch education. You can certainly hate me for this belief, its a free country as they say.

As for where I am from and why I am here: its not terribly pertinent is it for the question I raised? But I'll give you some of the information since some of you are so curious. I am very legal indeed, I am a U.S. citizen now. I live here because the most interesting job in the world in my area is here and because I married an American. We intend to split our time when we retire between my country and my husband's. We have a home in my country, and we go back every year so that our kids have a sense of their other culture and heritage. I came here for a Ph.D. at MIT in a scientific field. My area had just 1 American studying it in my year. I think this country needed the foreign students quite desperately. And yes, I was excited to study at MIT too. It was the best place to do what I did. I am not anti-American. The burka comments are just bizarre.

You are bizarre. And yes you are anti-American. MIT has financial aid for foreign students:

Many people in scientific fields who were from other countries choose to live in Fairfax County and aim for TJHSST. Unfortunately for you it is located in the USA specifically in Virginia. There are Virginia Standards of learning and to access the PUBLIC resources of TJHSST your children would have to suffer through US and Virginia history:

Wait, remind me, who's the troll again?

Can we put this thread to rest now?

Why does she expect US citizens to start one, and then tell us we're ignorant bigots because we haven't?

Because they want to go to TJ or AP schools. Get some US history and World History . Parents went/go bonkers when/ever Fairfax County Public schools mentions IB. Woodson threw it out and the venom on the change to South Lakes IB from AP schools was amazing.

You may be a big shot in real life, but not on the internet. So no, I don't have to prove anything to you, I don't have to take orders from you. I am free to believe what I believe--that there are schools on this planet that provide a good, global education--and you are certainly free to disagree. Have a good night!

Whoa! You think you can make assertions about your beliefs, and spread them all over the internet - and put it on other people to prove these assertions for you?

OK, I think the sun is blue. Please prove it for me, because I can't be bothered, and I think you're unreasonable to ask me for proof.

I was at MIT over the weekend (in Boston for HOC). It is so depressing there aren't many American faces at MIT. I for one would like for the U.S. to allow more immigrants from Western Europe and fewer from the rest of the globe. I read that blonde hair/blue eyes will be extint in 20 years. Yuck.

Yeah, maybe you caught the same thing because you are the same person. sheesh!

No!!!! I've been criticizing OP on grounds of illogic, a blinkered approach to the DC schools that might come close to meeting her needs and, yes, knee-jerk anti-americanism. But I would never put something like this.

Do you have blonde hair and blue eyes PP? You sound sort of simple.

There really are breathtakingly beautiful people who do NOT have blonde/blue coloration (Somalis, Central Asians, etc.) (Naturally) blonde hair is good for absorbing vitamin D from the sun and blue eyes are supposed to see better in the dark. Both preconditions are found in northern Europe/Scandinavia where it is dark night 3+ months out of the year. So there is a functionality for survival for these evolutionary traits.

Lots of tests have been done on little girls of all colors, shades, ethnicities. They pick the blonde-haired, blue-eyed dolls above all others.

Actually, no you don't. It's your arrogant demands that give you away.

Also, it seems you are unaware of the many wonderful international schools overseas that do offer a global perspective--yes, sweetie, it is possible,, not just some mythical ideal

See, for example:

International School of Bangkok
http://www.isb.ac.th/

Bali InternationalSchool
http://www.baliinternationalschool.com/

I clicked on both these sites, and the magic ingredient in both programs seems to be: the International Baccalaureate program.

I'm sure my kid would rather do IB in Bali than in Chevy Chase or Rockville, but other than the beautiful location I'm not seeing how these are terribly different from what's available here. Moreover, there's this statement from the Bali school's website:

"Bali International School aims to prepare its students for entry into Western schools and the very best universities around the world."

So I think the western focus remains at the schools you've cited. The Bali school does celebrate Indonesia day, but given that Bali is part of Indonesia that's not very surprising.

Are you the people who said, "Yuck."

Yes, that is all conditioning, media ... we can't escape it, even if we want to.

12:26 here again. Just want to make it VERY clear that I'm not 12:29.

So what's the big deal that you have to differentiate yourself from 12:29 above?
