Those that excel as a law enforcement officer can throw their hat in the ring when SRT/ERT/SWAT tryouts come around.

Do you have a desire to make a difference at work? Is giving back to your community important to you? Do you like dogs?
If you answered yes, perhaps you should look into becoming a K-9 Officer. https://fcpdnews.wordpress.com/2023/10/27/fcpd-canine-operations-unit-the-sons-and-daughters-of-mcgruff/ https://www.alexandriava.gov/police-department/canine-unit https://conduitstreet.mdcounties.org/2023/06/23/an-inside-look-at-k-9-officers-in-the-montgomery-county-police-force/ |

Most people think police just pull over cars and respond to rudimentary calls like drunks, overdoses, fights or domestic situations. In smaller departments that is more likely to be the case. In the larger departments there are many more specialized units that allow officers to pursue very interesting and varied career paths. In Fairfax, for example, they have an air wing division. Imagine spending your shift in a helicopter.

| The way our daughter’s department structures their shifts her schedule only has her working two days every other week. She tries to work at least one shift of overtime those weeks. A few weeks ago she had training on one of those days off and she made almost $1,000 in overtime pay. It amazes me that more young people don’t seriously consider law enforcement as a career. |
| I used to think that college educated young people who would like to see police reform should become police officers to be the change. Now I believe what they’d see on the streets would convert them. They’d come to understand why policing is the way it is. |

Verizon announced they will cut 13,000+ jobs. It’s their largest single layoff ever.

| A friend’s son did well in a private high school, but decided to join the Air Force after graduation. He did his four years of active duty, made a little money, then went into law enforcement. He has savings rather than college debt. He’s ahead of the game and making more than a majority of college graduates. |

Joining the FBI is a commitment, but can be a very fulfilling and interesting career.

| Our 26 year old son is a law enforcement officer in a HCOL area. He called us last night to tell us he’s looking at homes to purchase. In 5 years he’s earned enough for a down payment thanks to his overtime pay. The current average age of a first time home buyer in the U.S. is 40. Parents and students really underestimate the earnings potential for hard charging law enforcement officers willing to put in the work. |

The Arlington County PD is raising their starting salary to $90k next July.
The average starting salary for a college graduate with a BA is $69k. The vast majority of those grads won’t have a pension in their benefits package. |

Correct, that’s why the 30x30 Initiative exists. https://30x30initiative.org/ |
This female SWAT sniper seems like a badass, and she doesn’t appear to be particularly big. |
