Yes and the financial aid kids are struggling: https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2022/01/27/cosplaying-as-a-different-class-character-life-as-a-low-income-student-at-yale/ |
He studied psychology at Yale and played soccer there. He is currently working for Fidelity investment. |
HS name can matter if you go to a sub-par college. But if you are at an Ivy or 15-20, you are fine. |
DP but lots of ivy/+ topLACs go into consulting because the companies actively recruit at these schools. We know plenty who have zero connections personally, the connections were all because they attended that college. The one we know best , she and BF both recruited, moved to DC, 3rd yr in and now one of them goes to the alma mater to recruit new hires. They were just regular admits, average students. Not MBB but a “known” fortune 150 type company . They have lists of target colleges where they start searches. They hire humanities and tech majors and the typical Econ major. |
Yes, this: high school name only needed if you are not at a feeder college ivy/T15/Amherst/Wms/Swat. Have seen it over and over again. And these colleges teach interviewing , resumes, everything starting freshman yr. My ivy kid is already doing all of that in first yr as part of the intro engineering course, plus has the requisite faculty lists of labs that want students and pay them |
No. I know a half dozen DCPS Ivy grads (SWW or JR) who are now tutoring or working part time at non-profits. most are living at home. Even coming out if an Ivy it's SO much who you know. |
The previous post about the kids in the DC job consulting were both financial aid kids, one first gen. College name matters. |
This is true, and it starts with summer internships during college. My DC at an SLAC has gotten 2 internship offers for the summer - despite a much better resume than I ever had - one with an alum and the other with her wealthy best friend's stepfather. |
LOL. On what planet? |
Were they on financial aid? |
This is an interesting discussion....
I assumed that an Ivy or Ivy+ would be an equalizer for outcomes (job placement) across SES, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Where can I get more info on this? Reddit? Blogs? Books? |
you’d be surprised |

I've noticed that how attractive/put together someone also is leading to job offers more so than 5-10 years ago
the whole adorkable/hipster/"i'm too cool for being presentable" phase is out |
Yeah she should be fine. worst case scenario, if she's cute she can pivote and land a job at a NYC gallery or auction house smart on her not selling out to consulting |
