Why choose West Point?

West Point graduates are bright, athletic, patriots and selfless -- evidenced by their willing to die for the likes of you, both pro-military and anti-military.

For “the likes of” me?
Look, I was just trying to correct the poster who repeatedly tries to demean West Point. Clearly I don’t need to be reminded of what a West Point graduate is sacrificing.

Anti-WP poster is a loon (or worse). No doubt. But she raises a fair point -- for the sake of diversity, WP lowers their academic standards to a near in-defensible level. I love football, and enjoy every Black Knights win, especially against Navy! But the near illiterate athletes WP admits, offset by the scholars with HYP scores, is hard to defend.

I know multiple football players recruited by WP and other service academies who were also recruited by Ivies, so I guess WP isn't the only institution lowering their academic standards to "in-defensible levels."

Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB Harvard) scored 1580. But somebody had to read that to him as is illiterate

I'm not anti-WP or anti-military. I'm actually pro-military.
With all these glorified sales speeches like 'top of the class', 'exceptional', etc., I once blindly thought that you would need like 1500 SAT to start with, and the physical test would be close to semi-navy seal level.

After checking out the facts, it's not the case.
I think our fine kids should have more clear facts and better information.
One thing I like about WP is that they have the open point system and are pretty transparent.
It seems much more fair than other lottery schools.

Harvard has its own secret point system, and it was revealed in the Supreme Court case.
Holistic bullshit has limitations when you have thousands of thousands applicants.
Well it's another story, but Kudos to WP in that regard.

So with these more open transparency, we actually have better facts and information.
Some people are still in some sort of denial, but this is a college forum for kids and parents to get real information.
No need to bullshit.

In this geo-political climate, a recognition that they are possibly (likely) going to be in harms way during their career is the selfless service and courage that they possess that many others do not.

OP here.

Yes, kid I know turned down HYP Ivy.

Yes, and? My cousin got into several Ivies and the USNA. Full ride. She now flies the world's coolest planes, travels the world, and is serving her country. Please name an Ivy that would lead her to that path?

ROTC at an Ivy

No, you don’t go from ROTC to elite flying programs. But thank you for playing!

My spouse did OCS and now flies fighters. You're clueless.

Thank you. My DD is headed to WP this summer and we couldn't be more proud of her or excited for her.
