What’s a good field trip alternative? |
The Jamestown wine was great.
Local - maybe a performance at George Mason. The issue is using school buses. Unless they stay in Fairfax county that tends to mean they have no time to do anything due to the short window to get the bus back. So renting buses would be the better way to do the art museum field trip |
My now fifth grader went on three field trips last year. The Kennedy Center (I think all 4th grades go), Jamestown and a nature center where they collected and investigated species living in the pond. I thought they were great trips! |
Our school did jamestown and the richmond science museum. No kennedy center or nature center |
Every 4th grader goes to the Kennedy Center and every 6th grader goes to an art museum. |
Not every fourth grade does Kennedy Center. Our fourth grade does Jamestown every year and rotates other field trips |
Every ES school in FCPS is invited to send their fourth graders to the Kennedy Center to see the NSO. |
Not every ES accepts the invitation |
Correct. |
I would love to do field trips with my students, but I wouldn’t want to take on the potential liability. |
Are you serious? |
At my school, they sent kids on a field trip to chuckecheese. |
Absolutely. |
If you're for real, then you are a TERRIBLE teacher. What other experiences are you not allowing your poor students to have? Do you also ban books? |
Multiple places might be good. Random examples include Mt Vernon (works as a teachable moment about good and bad history), Colvin Run mill, nature centers, etc. |
