Longer and frequent breaks is far better.

Kids get time.
Families can travel.

I felt that way as a kid and I feel that way now as a parent.

If that is her intent, she needs to talk to the professional staff who are taking the instructional days before May away with longer breaks.

It’s not a farming schedule. It was a rich people escaping hot urban spots schedule. Spring and fall are the biggest busy times for farms.

I voted for D. Not that I really care that much long-term, I just don't wat them messing with the schedule next year. That's just not enough notice. With so few camps available that week before school starts, many families take their vacations then.

Agree. I think longer summer is better than breaks during the year but it’s too late to mess with it now.

It makes no sense to cram all vacations and breaks in 2-3 months. It's far better to spread it out. International families can travel and kids can get break.

Shorter but spread out breaks will also help with learning loss. 3 months of no instruction hurts poor families the most because kids are not learning for such a long time.

Summer isn't three months, but I guess..congrats..there was an attempt.

This. If it was a farming schedule, kids would have been off in Sept-Nov when the harvest comes and it is all hands on deck.

Maybe PP lost the ability to add over the longer summer break her parents created for her homeschooling?

Missed the raised point totally. 90 days, 75 days ... all are contributing to big learning loss for kids who don't have rich parents.

To improve the situation, make the break shorter and give regular and longer breaks rest of the year.

Agree so much. I do appreciate that many have already planned their vacation for late August next year.... but I hope that if this is a reason to keep the later start for the coming year, we can take the time to address it sooner for future years.

With such a diverse background in MCPS, it will help vast majority of families if they have flexibility to travel. Everyone does not have families 4-6 hours of drive.
