We have three cats and our finished basement is constantly dusty because of the litter boxes down there. Does anyone have experience with dust free litter or does this even exist?
Pine litter. They sell it at Target. We are still coughing up Fresh Step, because it can't be beat, but let me know how it goes.
Everclean. It's clay but very low dust. Pricey, but worth it. Clumps really well and stays 'cleaner' longer than other litters.

Pine litter does NOT do anything for smell, no matter how much you scoop. DONT DO IT!
Second Everclean. It's little glass-looking crystals--no dust. |
Arm and Hammer is good, but I may try everclean based on pps recommendations. Fresh Step is horrible.
I swear by Swheat Scoop--it's wheat based, no clay, no dust and it smells great. It does track though.
I can't STAND cat litter anymore - I am at the point of thinking about letting my two cats become outdoor cats by putting a small cat door. Beyond the annoyance of having it track everywhere, what REALLY bothers me is the smell! I clean that thing EVERY SINGLE DAY and it still smells! I hate it. I regret getting a second cat - it definitely makes a HUGE difference. I use fresh step crystals, after trying the clay kind (cheaper) - we have tried AH, fresh step clay, and others. ANY suggestions? What about this everclean? I have never heard about it... does it REALLY work?

Not sure if you are checking this anymore but I wanted to mention Precious Cat Respiratory Relief. We use this clumping, clay litter and I am very happy with it. It isn't dusty and the tracking is minimal. I have yet to find a litter that has no tracking but I think that is more likely due to my cat and his crazy jump and dash out of the litter box.
Best of luck! |
I second the Swheat Scoop
This thread is really timely for us, because we have 3 cats and 4 litterboxes, and we just switched in the last two weeks or so to pine (the clumping kind, not the pellets kind) from FreshStep. The FS was giving me a sore throat and headaches, it was so bad. And the dust? Yeah, say no more. Now, I love the fresh natural-ness of the pine and the smell is much better, the cats have accepted it, and I feel it's very tidy (no urine smell). However, I do feel it is still dusty, at least as about 75% as dusty as FS, but, at this stage of the game, I'll take what I can get because I am just happy to have a natural option. PS It also is much lighter than the FS, which has been a nice side benefit!

I've tried every brand, and swear by EverClean multi cat. I have 2 cats and you would never know it. There's no smell, no dust, and lasts WAY longer than any other brand I tried. Yes it is more expensive, but it also lasts WAY longer than other litter and works WAY better which is worth the extra money if dust and smells are your concerns.
World's Best Cat Litter -- low dust and good odor control. We tried this out and wish we could have stuck with it, but our picky cats protested.
Fresh step crystals have worked the best for our two cats. In our case the swheat scoop did not clump well enough to handle urine, and I thought World's Best reeked as soon as I opened up the bag.
We just got TidyCats Breeze system last week and so far, so good.
