What to wear for the "yes, i'm pregnant but i just look fat" phase?

Any suggestions on something chic to wear for a celebrity event with a fatty bump going on? I thought I'd wear some great jeans and a sparkly top, but my great jeans don't fit and the sparkly top only highlights a muffintop created by my great jeans that no longer fit. I don't own any maternity jeans and really don't want to purchase any, but that may be my only option I guess. Suggestions please.

Have you tried a bella band or the rubber band trick with your jeans? Wear a loose fitting/tunic-y top and heels?

Buy the maternity jeans that don't have the big belly flap, but that you wear under the belly and they have a little stretch in the side. I like the Paige Maternity Union skinny jeans. I wore them early in pregnancy and no one knew they were maternity jeans or that I was pregnant. You can definitely wear them when not pregnant too so I didn't feel like they were a waste. As far as a top, ( well maybe your sparkly top will fit if you get different jeans), I think it's best to wear something tight on the belly in the early stages so your little bump shows and you don't look fat. Of course i guess it depends on how big the bump is at this point. It might just look like a gut in which case you could wear and empire waist top or something like that.

I haven't tried the bella band or the rubber band, but neither sound comfortable. I would be afraid my pants would fall down or the rubber band could snap if I were to bend down or stretch in a weird way.

13:42, the Paige jeans sound perfect! Are they basically jeggings or actually jeans? I'm looking online and it's really hard to tell even with the descriptions.

the Paige jeans are something in between jeggings and regular jeans. they definitely look like regular jeans. They are a little bit thin, but not as thin as jeggings I've seen. If you order them from Paige or Saks or Shopbop then returning them is really easy. I ordered three pairs of jeans because i wasn't sure which size and then i returned 2.

High heels, skinny jeans with hair band to extend the button if needed, belly band to cover up the problem area, and a new top. Done!

PP here.

Ha ha! Yes, I wouldn't recommend it for more than a few times, but she is early on in her pregnancy. I did something similar last month at week 11. I wanted to dress up for date night with DH, so I wore my short black skirt and high heels, and the black belly band was an absolute necessity because I couldn't zip it up! I put on a nice top and a colorful scarf and felt transformed.

I'd been feeling pretty shlubby for the prior weeks, wearing primarily sweat pants (so comfy!). Getting dressed up for the night made be feel attractive, even if it was with smoke and mirrors!
