Why I love Jeff...

Anonymous
Because when I was pregnant and freaking out about the exact, special, perfect, swing....there was DCUM.

Because when I was on bedrest....off topic kept me sane.

Because when daycare fell through, I actually found a downtown DC daycare in 30 days.

Because when I wasn't going to vote for Mayor, Jeff guilted me into it.

Because when I'm bored at work (like now), it always gives me something to do.

Now, when I'm begining the search for schools, I'm realizing that DCUM will always be there...to make me realize, I'm the only sane person living here.

You realize Jeff is making money out of it, right? The responses are actually coming from other moms and dads...

So do you also love Al Gore? He made this all possible by inventing the internet.

Yeah well if it wasn't for Jeff pulling all the DC crazies together on one message board OP wouldn't have a place to go for answers to all her problems.

Or maybe the OP is Jeff...., way to stroke your own ego dude.

Why shouldn't Jeff make money off this site? More power to him!

You must not know me. The last thing my ego needs is stroking. But, thanks OP! The other poster is correct, though. The real value here is added by the users.

Ha! I admire everything about Mr. Steele's website but his knee-jerk lefty politics, and certainly hope he gets paid.

I never said he should not. Good for him. He's smart and faster than any of us

What Al Gore actually did was to sponsor legislation that opened the Internet first to universities and libraries, then to commerce. He deserves a lot of credt.

I love how people keep saying this. The Internet was around long before Al Gore and he had nothing to do with setting it up or running it. All he did was coin the term "Information Superhighway". Arpanet (the precursor to today's Internet) was developed in the 1960's (who else remembers !uunet!dcum!anonymous addressing?). Today's forums like this one are descended from Usenet newsgroups from the 1970's. His major contribution was backing a bill that funded development of the Internet while he was a Senator. That funding allowed the Arpanet, which was only practical for institutions and large companies to be expanded to be practical for more general use by smaller companies and individuals.

I actually remember thinking "I hope this legislation passes b/c I'm going to start an Internet company." I did and sold it for a ton of money. Gore screwed up when he said what he did, but the fact is that he did open up the Internet to commerce. It's no joke, but because of his gaffe he'll never get thanked for it.

Hello folks. I posted the original comment about Al Gore inventing the internet.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT I WAS ONLY JOKING?

Now please go back to what you were doing and stop using this as an opportunity to post mundane facts about the internet that you never had the opportunity to post before. Thanks!

Al Gore never said he invented the Internet. This is an urban myth.
