Olney kids go either to Sherwood or Magruder depending on where you live. You can find the statistics on the MCPS website.

Sherwood is an excellent HS (we have tons of neighbors whose kids go there or have recently graduated and moved on to excellent colleges). It's less diverse than the schools in SS and TP, but there's still diversity. Overall, the Olney/Brookeville area that feeds into Sherwood HS is less economically diverse than SS and TP (not as many apartments, townhomes or rentals out here as compared to SS and TP). There's an old thread in DCUM where someone called Olney (and Sherwood) "rural." That's simply not true, but you should check out that thread. If you post specific questions about Olney/Brookevile, I'm happy to respond.

OK, I live in SS, so I am not biased in favor of Olney, but I would think the schools out there are generally better. They certainly have better test scores. But really, the simple fact is that they don't have all the socioeconomic issues to deal with that the SS/Tak Pk schools do. I think the trade-off, as a pp mentioned, is that they are less diverse. I think they are also smaller, but I guess that matters which specific school you're comparing.
