Council Member Harry Thomas, Jr. was charged today with one count of Theft Concerning Programs Receiving Federal Funds and one count of Filing a False Tax Return.
He is being asked to forfeit his 2008 Victory Motorcycle and 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. It is alleged that Thomas "embezzled, stole, obtained by fraud" $353,500 in DC government funds. |

And, now Thomas has resigned. The Board of Elections has five days to declare the seat vacant and set the date for a special election which will probably be in May (I think). Potential candidates are coming out of the woodwork, but Vincent Orange -- who previously held that seat -- apparently wants to be kingmaker and is planning a meeting to try to narrow the candidate field.
