| I've been to several in DC (Old Europe, Cafe Mozart, Cafe Berlin, Biergartenhaus) and have always left disappointed. |
|
If you're willing to drive to Hagerstown, there's a great restaurant there called Schmankerl Stube. My dad is German and we hiked out there for his 80th birthday and he was in heaven.

| We like Kafe Leopold in Georgetown ...but not strictly German/Austrian. Lovely place. Old Europe in Glover Park used to be good but I haven't been in ages. |
OP - thank you, I'l give it a try! |
I like Leopold too, including its atmosphere, although it's mostly for cakes and desserts (also pretty pricy). Old Europe gets better after your second beer. |
I'm German and I have yet to find a German restaurant in MD, DC or VA that I liked or that had authentic food. You could always come to my house and I'll make you the best Schnitzel and Kaesespaetzle ever!!!

Wenn Du wirklich Deutsche bist, dann weisst Du auch das Schniztel Oesterreichisch ist!
|
Das stimmt! Aber schmeckt auch. |
| It's a drive but Bavarian Chef in Madison or Fredericksburg |
I may take you up on this offer!! I'll bring the beer. |
| We went to the Old Stein Inn which is near Annapolis. It was very good, and relatively authentic. |
| You'll never find good German food anywhere because it's terrible tasting! |
Sagte klein Doofi-mit-den-Plueschohren. |
Actually I didn't like german or austrian food until I actually had it in Germany and Austria. Night and day compared to here. |
| My ancestors were killed in the Holocaust. I wouldn't eat German food for anything...the smell makes me gag. |
