I am new to this forum. I went off the pill 5 months ago, and still have no period. My ob-gyn said I should see an infertility endocrinologist, and referred me to Shady Grove. I just called Shady Grove and they said they don't 'do' endocrinology and gave me a list of endocrinologists they refer people to. I don't know anything about any of them. Can anyone recommend a good endocrinologist that they trust? |
yes -- go see an RE -- Reproductive Endo.... Loved Dr. Muasher --http://www.mcfivf.com/
GOOD LUCK!!! |
Any suggestions in DC? |
I would call Shady Grove again. I think there must be a mis-communication somewhere. All their doctors are reproductive endocrinologists. They will want to run many of the standard infertility tests on you as many of those tests are designed to see if you are ovulating and if not, why not. |
I HATED SHADY GROVE. TRY COLUMBIA. |
This is OP. What did you hate about Shady Grove? |
Too controlling. Runs like a business, and I got Dr. Stillman. There was a thread on this forum about him. I ran away immediately. |
There have been lots of posts on DC Urban Moms and Dads about Shady Grove. Both here on the website and on the list serve. It seems like most people love them or hate them. I think a lot of it has to do with whether or not you were successful with them and what particular doctor/nurse combination you had. I have had a very positive experience with Shady Grove and loved my doctor, but I also met some there that left me cold (including Dr. Stillman).
I went to Dominion Fertility before Shady Grove. I really liked Dr. Gordon. I didn't like Dr. Dimatina, but you will find a lot of people on this board who love him. We left for a couple of reasons, but the biggest reason was their accounting department. However, that was several years ago and I'm haven't heard any similar complaints on this board. Best of Luck! |
PP here -- I want to retract my statement about Dr. Stillman, we had someone for one of our embryo transfers that I was not wild about, but now looking back, I do not believe it was Dr. Stillman. |
check out columbia fertility -- people rave about Dr. Saks; i use dr. rifka there who i really like a lot. |
I recommend Dr. J. Cohen, at GWU. He is great, but you need plenty of patience when you arrived to the waiting area. I'm thankful my hypothyroidism is under control and my quality of life has improved in 1 year and few months. |
I second the recommendation for Dr. Muasher. I live in DC and wanted to stay on the area, so spent 10 months at Columbia fertility, the last 3 with Dr. Sacks, who is great. The office, however is a mess and we had several snaffoos with incorrect blood work results and prescriptions. They were all minor, but left us feeling untrusting. Overall, the office made the already stressful process much more stressful.
This fall, we switched to Dr. Muasher's office. Its not a bad drive from the city and the ease of dealing with their office more than makes up for it. There is never a wait, they know you by name, return calls within the hour and call with blood work results early in the day. Dr. Muasher's bedside manner is very clinical, but I do believe that he is one of the best. |
I am currently working with Dr. Sachs right now. Just got implanted for the first time today, but I originally went for the same reason you did. Was off the pill and wasn't getting my period, or would get them but would never be positive for ovulation. He sat with me for on hour consult (can you imagine that much time with a doctor), and in successive consults did the same. He also suggested that I have my husband checked out and referred us to his colleague, Dr. Sherins downstairs to have my husband tested as well (you didn't say if you're trying for kids now or not). But, he had several tests done on me, and it ended up that despite my issues (which he deemed minor, and that I had the physiology of a 'high responder' to fertility drugs - essentially, it was something like (forgive me, it's been over a year now) the fact that I was totally healthy, but enough of a certain drug wasn't being self-produced to make my lining shed every month. When I was young, before I went on the pill, I had very heavy periods, and apparently this is a very common two-sides-of-the-same-coin type of problem.)
Now, if you're not going for fertility reasons, I don't know what he'll do, but he is specifically a reproductive endocrinologist. Unlike the poster above, I have never had a problem with waits or them not knowing me. They always greet us by name, and he's constantly asking me about my job, next travels etc. I hope that helps. |
Sorry, me again in the above post on Dr. Sachs....to finish my thoughts "Despite my issues....the real problem ended up being my husband, not me." |
Dr Sharara in Reston is amazing |
