It's actually been pretty fun watching the GOP base fall in love with one loser after another. Remember our very own DCUM poster who was all amped up about the prospect of a Gingrich candidacy. "He's soo smart!"

Oh, look! It turns out he's a serial cheater who's more of a grifter than Sarah Palin. Ends up with 11% of the Iowa vote.

How about Perry? "He's soo handsome and a real straight shooter!" Turns out he's as dumb as a post, and completely washed out in IA.

Bachmann? Turns out she's an embarrasing moron.

once there is a single repub candidate the generic ballot will beat obama, this is without a single person campaigning against obama and the repubs are winning. I am afraid that once they start targetting obama's last 3 years it will cause obama to really loose support because obama hasn't done anything positive for the economy and has made things worse or prolonged the suffering. It's a sad time to be a democrat. Obama is not only Carter 2.0 he is Carter X 2 times worse

I'm not so sure. The conventional wisdom is that only real dead-enders like yourself, and the plutocrat wing of the GOP will rally behind Romney. The Christianists will be unmotivated because he's a cult-member who follows a blasphemous perversion of Christianity. And the real conservatives will be unmotivated since Romney's natural politics are fairly indistinguishable from Obama's. Heck, he was the *first* one to force Obamacare on the voters under his term as Massachusetts governor. Granted, he called it Romneycare, but it's not like he can see the future, you know.

Kudos to the GOP star-chamber for anointing a candidate who isn't an angry, uncharismatic old man like Dole or McCain, though. There's a good chance Romney won't embarrass himself.

Hey, can you figure out why no high-profile Democrats have come forward to challenge Obama? Now see if you can figure out why no high-profile Republicans have come forward to challenge Obama. They know what the numbers are, and they know getting trounced in 2012 is going to kill any chance of a successful run in 2016.

On the flip side Obama sucks so bad that it will motivate everyone to vote against him so its a win win. Obamas horrid policies is motivating everyone to vote him out.

You are dreaming. These candidates have been firing at Obama for months. What has he done in response? Is be spending millions of dollars to counter the message? Hell no, he's amassing a huge war chest and building his ground organization. Meanwhile the economic news is getting better each month. He's doing some speeches, but he has not begun to fight.

This is as bad as it gets for Obama. This is him with 8.7% unemployment and zero campaign advertising. Meanwhile your candidates are beating each other up so bad, the survivor (probably Romney) won't know who is is or what he stands for by the time this is done.
