| Is what I want for my birthday this year. Best restaurant to go to? Location anywhere in DC or suburbs. Also, what to order? I've checked Tom S (Wash Post) but looking for further recommendations. |
| Habisha on 9th street. Across from Asefus. Not fancy but the best IMO! |
| PS....I order beef ribs, awaze (spicy) |
| Should say beef tibs! Autocorrect!! |
| Silver Spring has some terrific Ethiopian restaurants. Abol, Addis Ababa, Abyssinia, BĂȘte. I like Addis Ababa best. |
| Goodness it's been soooo long since we've been for Ethiopian food. Adams Morgan used to have a lot of restaurants and probably still does. I like the dish with the hard boiled egg in it. |
No. U street has some of the best. Dukem is excellent, as is Etete. |
|
I finally went to Dukem a few months ago and was sorely disappointed. I don't get the hype at all. Easily the least delicious Ethiopian place Ive tried in the area.
I agree Silver Spring has a lot to choose from. |
|
I'm a big fan of Addis Ababa. But, since trying Abyssinia twice, It's now my favorite.
|
| Not sure what you were expecting at Dukem or what the hype is. It is the best Ethiopian food in the area, next to Etete. Service is so-so, but the food is consistent and awesome every time. If you like meat, I would recommend the Dukem Tibs. Vegetarians love the Veggie Combo, with or without the fish |
| Agree that Addis Ababa in Silver Spring is good. Also Madjet on U Street is a good second, when Dukem is full |
| Dukem used to be good, but now it sucks. Try Queen of Sheeba, Ethiopic, Meaza, or Etete. |
| OK, so now I have to narrow it down. What is the "etiquette"? No utensils, correct? Anything else I need to know? |
|
I was also underwhelmed with Dukem.
Ethiopic is the bomb though!! I've been several times in the last year and it is consistently fabulous. |
|
Went to a place on U St (lower level, basement area)-- maybe 1600 block? It was delicious- had no idea what we were eating since I was with a friend who knew the owners, and the owners just brought us out a bunch of dishes. I eat everything, so I didn't care- and it was all delicious.
I've also been to the places metioned in Silver Spring- loved them all. Mmmmm. Hungry now. |
