Ethiopian food

Is what I want for my birthday this year. Best restaurant to go to? Location anywhere in DC or suburbs. Also, what to order? I've checked Tom S (Wash Post) but looking for further recommendations.

Habisha on 9th street. Across from Asefus. Not fancy but the best IMO!

Silver Spring has some terrific Ethiopian restaurants. Abol, Addis Ababa, Abyssinia, BĂȘte. I like Addis Ababa best.

Goodness it's been soooo long since we've been for Ethiopian food. Adams Morgan used to have a lot of restaurants and probably still does. I like the dish with the hard boiled egg in it.

No. U street has some of the best. Dukem is excellent, as is Etete.

I finally went to Dukem a few months ago and was sorely disappointed. I don't get the hype at all. Easily the least delicious Ethiopian place Ive tried in the area.

I agree Silver Spring has a lot to choose from.

I'm a big fan of Addis Ababa. But, since trying Abyssinia twice, It's now my favorite.

Not sure what you were expecting at Dukem or what the hype is. It is the best Ethiopian food in the area, next to Etete. Service is so-so, but the food is consistent and awesome every time. If you like meat, I would recommend the Dukem Tibs. Vegetarians love the Veggie Combo, with or without the fish

Agree that Addis Ababa in Silver Spring is good. Also Madjet on U Street is a good second, when Dukem is full

Dukem used to be good, but now it sucks. Try Queen of Sheeba, Ethiopic, Meaza, or Etete.

OK, so now I have to narrow it down. What is the "etiquette"? No utensils, correct? Anything else I need to know?

I was also underwhelmed with Dukem.

Ethiopic is the bomb though!! I've been several times in the last year and it is consistently fabulous.

Went to a place on U St (lower level, basement area)-- maybe 1600 block? It was delicious- had no idea what we were eating since I was with a friend who knew the owners, and the owners just brought us out a bunch of dishes. I eat everything, so I didn't care- and it was all delicious.

I've also been to the places metioned in Silver Spring- loved them all. Mmmmm. Hungry now.
