Question for those who still celebrate birthdays

What do you usually do for your birthday?

Group dinner with friends. Gifts at home with the family.

I love to cook so I pick out a dessert I've never tried and make that. It's fun, and my DC loves to help out in the kitchen.

Go out to dinner with DH. Sometimes my sister joins us (we're twins, so we both celebrate together then), sometimes my best friend and her boyfriend join us. That's pretty much it. DH gives me a present or two, as well.

The spouse whose bday it isn't bakes a cake. We eat it and open our gift at home.

Go out to lunch (same restaurant every year, by choice) with family.
Have cake (usually the same kind of cake. Also by choice).
Usually go to church (Christmas Eve birthday).

For big numbers, like 40, the spouse should throw a party.

Really? Why?

Because it's fun, life should be celebrated, and it's an excuse to get together with friends.

Cupcakes or cake at home. Dinner at home with kids. A couple of presents. I try to duck out and do something for myself that day (bookstore, quick shopping trip, etc.).

I like to do something fun as a family, like go to the zoo. Daughter and husband make a cake and we have dinner together. Now that our daughter is two she has some strong feelings about birthdays, so we have to sing and wear hats while we have our cake. My MIL also likes to have everyone over for a birthday dinner.

Have you never been to a 40th party?

I'm single. I expect my girlfriends to bring me out to the restaurant of my choosing, and they comply. And of course it's all reciprocal. Good times!

Looking forward to going to Rasika in February! I've never been and heard it's wonderful.
