Seriously? Have you ever been groped or harassed? Have you ever lived in a tiny town? This isn't something most women who are harassed end up doing, they do not go to the police. Again, do some research on why.

My favorite is that guy who defended him by referencing Mary and Joseph in the Bible. I was done after that. I mean, really???

Why, look at that gentleman in the Sears suit and Thom McCann shoes having a leisurely stroll around the mall! I a-swear he could be a SenaTUH of these here United States of America someday. Or why even Chief Justice of our state’s highest court. Oh myyyyyy.

The latest has something better. Roy Moore signed her yearbook and signed it with "love"!

Women are explaining to you how difficult and complex this issue is. Your grandmother, your mother, your 2 sisters, your aunt. Statistically at leasst one of these have been a victim. And more than likely keeping it a secret. You don’t want to listen to women who have been through a sexual assault and try to understand why molestation goes unreported? Fine, then STFU. The time for men to tell women how the should feel and how they should behave when they are violated is over. We’ll take it from here.

Jesus Christ, you bible thumping fool, just drop out already.

So leaving aside the question of whether Roy Moore actually forced himself on a series of teenagers and was so creepy that security had to follow him around the mall - what do yo think is going to happen with the Alabama senate race?

Is he going to win still? By how much? And what happens after that?

My pessimistic side says he still wins, and just exacerbates the current sh*tshow in Washington - with the end result being one I like: that it strengthens Dems' chances in 2018.

Too bad the Alabama media didn't follow up on these rumors earlier.

How can evangelicals support Moore?! Disgusting! Not very Christian either, unless your Christianity involves deep hypocrisy.

Yes, we would have been spared the spectacle of Moore almost being elected senator. But thank goodness they're doing it now.

As I said very very early on this thread, their need to control women's bodies directs their entire political philosophy to the exclusion of anything and everything else.

You are forgetting (or not knowing) there is a fundamentalist sect of Christian evangelicalism that does not abhor this type of courtship/marriage to young teenage girls. What they would frown on would be this kind of conduct outside of a marriage, or, as people have already stated, if the older man did so without permission from the teenagers parents.

THIS IS A REAL THING in some parts of evangelical Christianity.

To wit: http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-brightbill-roy-moore-evangelical-culture-20171110-story.html

We need to talk about the segment of American culture that probably doesn’t think the allegations against Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore are particularly damning, the segment that will blanch at only two accusations in the Washington Post expose: He pursued a 14-year-old-girl without first getting her parents’ permission, and he initiated sexual contact outside of marriage. That segment is evangelicalism. In that world, which Moore travels in and I grew up in, 14-year-old girls courting adult men isn’t uncommon.

I use the phrase “14-year-old girls courting adult men,” rather than “adult men courting 14-year-old girls,” for a reason: Evangelicals routinely frame these relationships in those terms. That’s how I was introduced to these relationships as a home-schooled teenager in the 1990s, and it’s the language that my friends and I would use to discuss girls we knew who were in parent-sanctioned relationships with older men.

I do think this a fringe element of evangelicals. I grew up in a very Southern Baptist community, was a teenager in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and it was absolutely not normal for a 14 year old girl to be dating or courting a 30 something year old man. My mother and father did not allow me to even date boys more than two years older than I was until I went to college, and my husband is within 6 months of my age. My parents and all four of my grandparents are within two years of the same age. You have to go back to my great-grandparent's generation (born in 1870's to 1880's) to find decade or more age differences.
