I'm 39 weeks and just found out via sonogram that my baby is breech, so I'm going to have a scheduled c-section this week. I'm a little in shock since I've been told for the past 3 weeks after every internal exam that the head was down. I've got a few days to prepare. Any tips on what to wear afterwards? Should I pick up some loose fitting sweats at Target, or will my maternity clothes be okay? I have some maternity pants with the huge band that comes up over your entire belly, and some of the kind where the band sits right below the belly. Thanks for any help. |
Loose fitting is important. You will not want pants that rub against your incision. Maternity pants with the huge band would prob. be ok, but the kind that sits below the belly might rub against your incision and be uncomfortable. I wore sweats home from the hospital and in the days that followed. HTH! |
regular maternity clothes will be fine. THe incision site is below the hairline, if that gives you an idea.
Everyone's recovery is different, but I found the site to be numb and it really didn't hurt by the time I got home. Whatever you had planned to wear home from the hospital (if you'd gotten that far) will probably be fine. Planned c-sections, while major surgery, are a relative breeze (I've had both planned and un-planned). Your recovery will likely be pretty easy, so just relax and enjoy your baby!! |
I had a scheduled C-section a few weeks ago, and found that those loose fitting capri style pajama pants with drawstrings have been really comfy for around the house.
Anything that doesn't sit too low is fine. For going out, I'm been wearing my maternity pants that covered the belly. They're high enough that they don't irritate the incision. My incision was irritable for a few weeks. Also might want to consider underwear. I had worn hipsters when PG, but after the C-section, I lived in granny panties for a while. Maybe pick up a pack of cheap briefs? Good luck! My DB was breech also. I'm sure everything will go fine for you. |
I second the granny panties. If you like the mesh ones they give you in the hospital, ask them if you can take a few pairs home (or just take a few). They're cotton and can be washed. I really liked them, but you'll also need to wear them with maxi pads that don't have adhesive tape like the ones they give you in the hospital. |
I wore my regular maternity clothes through two C-Sections and had no problem. Best of luck to you! |
I found loose dresses to work best. And given the heat, it shouldn't be a problem. Oh, and the worst item for awhile is jeans. |
Ditto the 17:25 poster. Once I was discharged from the hospital I just wore my regular maternity clothes. I had brought home a pair or two of the hospital panties, but that was because of the normal post birth bleeding, not the incision. After I used those up, I just wore my regular underwear. |
I bought a couple of pairs of old lady sweatpants (the kind that I could practically pull up to the bra line). They were really, really soft and comfortable. Normal underwear was not a problem, I could not tolerate the waistbands on any normal/maternity pants for a couple of weeks. |
