Anyone else love South of the Boarder?

We just stopped here on our way to FLA- hilarious!!!!

I begged my parents to stop there the one time we drove by, but they didn't. I know I'd love it. It seems way over the top and cheesy and horrible (and I mean that in the best possible way).

Im not a big fan, though i enjoy all of the signage. My elderly, widowed neighbor, who is mostly estranged from his daughter, talks nostalgicly about going to South of the Border for vacation with his daughter and his grand kids once. Not stopping there on the way to somewhere else. Actually going there specifically for vacation, then returning home. How depressing.

It's not really a place to stay-- very fun to visit!!!!!!

My parents got married there. Enough said.

LOVED it when I was 8, wonder what I'd think of it now?

Couldn't stop laughing as a kid. Sadly, my boring, responsible adult self would probably find it racist and tacky (evidence: can't get past the misspelling of "border" in the thread title).

What do I remember most about it? My first encounter with pay toilets!

OMG -- I remember those pay as you go toilets as a kid. The last time we stopped through there it was really run down but as a kid it was nice and fun because there were working rides and decent food.

Horrible, scary, food poisoning from the tacos...I remember wondering when the child molester was going to bust down the door in the bathroom. Good fireworks stand though. Keep driving until you get to Florence.
Also avoid motels in Lumberton, I read that there is a lot of drug dealing and illegal activity in the motel parking lots there.
