Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a primary care provider who specializes in travel medicine and also takes health insurance. Most of the travel clinics are pay out-of pocket. Thanks in advance! Melissa |
Dr. Elliot Aleskow on K Street in NW is a primary care physician who also does travel medecine. |
Dr. Sauri in Gaithersburg. |
Can you tell me what is "travel medicine"? Is this someone you would go to to see what kinds of shots/etc. you would need for an upcoming trip? Someone you would see upon returning from a trip (having picked up something nasty?)
I actually went to the Fairfax County health clinic to get shots for an overseas trip a few years ago. I thought they were very competent in this area. I think frequently the county health clinics may actually be more experienced with this stuff than a "regular" doctors office, as I think they get a lot of customers from all over the world. |
Shady Grove has a travel medicine clinic. Try searching www.istm.org - Int'l Society of Travel Medicine. The insurance issue may not be so much that they don't accept insurance; it is that your insurance won't cover the vaccinations and treatment. I was able to get my anti-malaria prescriptions covered through my insurance. I submitted claims myself to BC/BS for our typhoid shots but they were denied. My kids got Hep A and it was covered only because it is something that is part of the regular vax schedule anyways. Good luck. |
