Old Guard leaving MCPS

Fieda Lacey is retiring shortly. Frank Stetson has just announced that he is leaving MCPS. Great news! Perhaps the new Superintendent Josh Starr can be credited with those changes.

I hope Larry Bowers is next.

Who are they? What have they done at MCPS?

Not much.

IMO Stetson was useless as a community superintendent. His only goal was to preserve the status quo. He had no regard for parents' concerns no matter how legitimate they were. Principal was King.

This is so good to hear!

Ditto. When he was told that our principal had no concept of safety, his response through his assistant was that the parents not the school assumed full responsibility for the safety of their children on school grounds even during school hours. Really?

Anything to defend the principal.

This is step, but the whole culture of MCPS and maybe all public schools needs to change. Parents are managed, told little white lies, and put through process hurdles. Accountability is non-existant. At the very least, I wish the schools would be transparent and honest with parents, rather than patronizing them.

NP here. I really agree with this. There is such an arrogance among MCPS administrators. I've found it's useless to bother asking questions. Be prepared to handle it at home and send your kid to school for the social aspect, or prepare to be disappointed.

So, so true! The principal at my elem school in Bethesda was a compulsive liar, and they completely ignored it. They asked him to sign a sworn affidavit which he did, but they had overwhelming evidence that he was telling lies. There is no accountability in the Montgomery County school system.

There is a culture of lying in our schools. Principals know that they will be no consequences for that type of conduct so why they should care.

when I contacted the administration to ask questions I was provided with such unbelievable responses, but their attitude was like "we both know I (MCPS admin) am lying, but there is absolutely nothing you can do about it".

Our principal is a compulsive liar as well. It is rather disturbing to hear that this is a county-wide problem.

Ours too! And a terrible spinner of the MCPS party line.

Mine too. She will tell you one thing and then say, "I never said that." I only communicate in writing with her now.

Huh, our MCPS principal is amazing. Responsive to parents, expects a lot from her teachers, has a built a strong esprit de corps. No idea who the admins above are, but we have been thrilled with our principal and would be sad if that member of the old guard left.

So the reputation of MC parents as being some of the biggest PIAs in the country is accurate.
