If we go to Philly do we need a car (or can we just take the train)? Any suggestions for where to stay (or what to do with elementary aged child?) |
| Philly is good with or without a car - depends on what you want to do. The subway there isn't very nice, not like our metro - I'd avoid it. Think about what you want to see and map it out. Probably easier without a car if you don't mind walking/taking a cab. If you like history - independence hall area has a lot of great stuff. Other things to do - Franklin Institute, Please Touch Museum (for younger elem school child), Philadelphia Zoo. If you like art, Phildelphia Art Museum or Barnes Foundation (need a car for this one). Mutter Museum is neat - but not for everyone - it's a medial museum, look it up to see if appropriate for your family (older children). Stay downtown, around Market Street. If you drive, Longwood Gardens (in Kennett Square, Pa) is on the way and has really nice Christmas displays. |
thanks! do you know of any specific holiday things worth doing in Philly? Are there lights or store windows worth seeing? |
| You don't need a car in Philly if you say downtown there's this trolley called the Phlash that stops at all the major tourist spots. It is for tourists and very convenient. I would probably recommend staying in the art museum area, there is an Embassy Suites, or near Rittenhouse Square, lots of good dining and shopping in that area. Recommend visiting the aquarium across the river in Camden. |
