Speech therapy eval

Our DC is being evaluated by the school for possible ASD. So far they are doing an educational psych and OT eval. Waiting for reports. Should we also request a speech eval? We're sure he has problems with receptive and pragmatic speech. Not familiar at all with the IEP process. TIA!

The schools aren't really the best places to get an ASD eval. School psychologists often have very little specialty here, very little specific training on ASD diagnosics. Get a good private eval from a developmental pediatrician. The school psych can also only give an EDUCATIONAL label for autism, not a true Dx.

OP: We consulted with a developmental pediatrician but not finished with the eval yet. Will give him all the school testing once finished.

Usually speech is part of the neuropsych exam. Ask the school for additional info on the kinds of tests and their purpose.
