| I am totally at a loss and Christmas is a week away. His birthday was about 10 days ago, his sister's bday was last week and I was just trying to make it through those two big events. Now we are 8 days away and I have no idea what to get. He has a bike, a scooter, a motorized vehicle, all the dress up clothes a kid could want. Grandparents got him a leappad explorer with lots of games. I am worried I would come up with any great ideas and go get lots of junk we don't need. HELP! |
| What is your budget? |
| One of the best gifts my son got at age four was a car mat. It's a little mat that as roads drawn on it and a bunch of cars. You can get it at Toys r us for less than $20. |
| I am not too concerned about budget. Any ideas welcome. We have the car road mat type thing, have had it for a while and it is still used. |
| Start him on legos. Ninjago, any of the Star Wars sets, and the City series are all popular with that age. |
| The lego situation started with bday gifts and he got 4 new large sets around that time. Great idea but since he got so many a week ago I think I can wait for more of them. |

Magnatiles.

|
Legos (bucket of Legos is for 4+ and is a great open ended way to start)
Automoblox minis. Get more then one so interchange the parts to build different vehicles. They're fast to race too. A set of 3 is around $30, but they are $5-10 cheaper on Amazon. Marble run (there are different types. I do not recommend the Imaginarium one - it's cheap. Fatbrain has a few to choose from which are probably better). Erector Jr. (ie: the easy bucket) Magnatiles are great (yet pricey) but I don't think they are on sale this year due to flooding at their production facility/factory. I haven't been able to find them. Does he like/need any outdoor toys? Bike or trike? Scooter? Books, of course. Puzzles? 24 or 48 piece ones? Fatbrain toys has a lot of cool ideas for different age ranges as well. |
| My son is obsessed with Playmobil sets. Especially animals. |
|
Games like Twister, dominos?
Hexbugs? Animal or action figures? Knights? Pirates? Dinosaurs? (Or just a playmobil set) |
| Another playmobil vote. My DS's are 3 & 5 and are fully consumed in playmobil. We keep several containers separated by type of playmobil, they play with the pirate sets, city, the zoo, farm, etc... It can entertain them for hours. |
| How about tickets to the movies or a puppet show? It's not the big wow factor when you open it but it sounds as though you have enough stuff. |
|
OP here, great ideas people but many of them have already been exhausted. He has a bunch of playmobil things, his DS seems to steal pieces and then they are just all over the playroom. He has been to a quite a few movies so I think he would be like oh man what is this paper...
Still looking so keep the ideas coming |
| Is he into dinosaurs? My 4 yo is obsessed with Dinosaur Train, and he is getting a few of the interactive dinos. They interact with each other and spout Dino facts. We haven't played with them yet obviously, but they get really good reviews on amazon. He's also getting a couple transformers. I think several of his friends at school are into them so he wants some. The other stuff he's getting has already been covered here. |
| We got a bunch of dinosaur stuff for the bday (stencils, dino train, action figures) he is very into all of them but I just don't see us needing more. We got a transformer last year and pieces were broken off it within a few months. |
