Firm mattress for (expecting) mom and dad

Anonymous
My desire for a new firm mattress is increasing as I sink more into our very cheap 10-year-old mattress at night. We are dreaming of Tempurpedic, but they are so expensive. What have others found to make it though pregnancy (and hopefully for several years afterward)?

I don't think those expensive mattresses are worth it. A regular mattress is just fine and you should change it every 10 years, so I guess you are due for a new mattress around now. What about a pregnancy sleeping pillow? Have you tried that? I've heard they are great.

The life expectancy for most mattresses are 8-10 years so if you have had your mattress for 10 years it is time to shop for another one. What I have shared with my clients when they are shopping for a new mattress is to take the time and try them out, lay down on them not just sit on them. You have a better feel to what is comfortable for you. But just remember, what may be comfort for you may not be comfortable for your partner. Tempurpedic has a 20 year warranty and most orthopedic mattresses have a 15-20 year warranty which is a great deal to consider. The Healthy Back store would be a great place to start and they carry both Tempurpedic and orthopedic mattresses.

Good Luck!
