I think I must produce more than the average person. How do you keep your ears clean? ISO tips!

Use Debrox.

For a long time, I would use ball syringes to clean them the way the doctor does. Then, I got my first ear infection from using q-tips and I vowed never to stick anything in them again. My doctor told (i.e., gently reminded) me that ears really are self-cleaning and that the more you clean them, the more susceptible you are to infection AND it causes your body to produce more wax. I stopped cleaning them altogether-- outside of letting water run in during my shower and wiping as far in as I can with a towel and, sure enough, I don't have the problem I used to. Long story short, stop cleaning them and they will clean themselves.

There is a large variation of earwax. Most people's earwax does not interfere or cause problems and should be left alone. There is a small percentage of people who have wax that is a lot thicker and not really "waxy". My son has wax like this and we definitely need to use Debrox to break it up. If we don't it will completely plug his ear canal. He will also get water in his ear from baths or swimming and it will become trapped. If enough gets trapped it puts pressure on the ear drum and is very painful.

So, products like Debrox are meant for situations like this. We don't put qtips in his ears however. We simply remove the wax that has made it's way out that you can see.

Does Debrox get the wax out to the extent you can see it? How do you know its working?
