Hi! I just found out I am pregnant with #2 and want to get started with some prenatal yoga classes (wish I had done it more last time).
Anyone have any recommendations for yoga classes in Arlington or elsewhere in Northern Virginia? Thanks!!! |
VHC offers prenatal yoga classes, but honestly sometimes the parking situation there is nuts and the parking spots are sooooo tiny. So when you are super prego its hard to get in and out of your car there! No joke that is why I stopped going! I was breaking out in more of a swaet dealing with the car than going to the yoga class! |
Sun and Moon Yoga Studio in Cherrydale offers classes. So does the Virginia Hospital Center.

Since you seem to have experience with pregnancies and yoga, when do you think is the best time in the pregnancy to start taking yoga classes? |
I really liked the VHC classes. I took them Tuesday evenings and Sunday morning.
The parking wasn't really an issue at those times (I do know that parking at VHC is a pain, as the 10:02 poster wrote.) The Tuesday night ones are at Carlin Springs so no issue with parking there. And, Sundays were not a problem at VHC. FWIW, I also took classes with Jennifer Moore (moorethanyoga.com) and wasn't as happy with them versus the ones at VHC. Good luck! |
You can start anytime! I started mine late in the first trimester, after I started feeling a little better. That worked out well because as the pregnancy went on, and I got bigger, I was able to continue on. I delivered my baby last month, and ended up with a C-section. So, can't say whether yoga helped with the delivery, but it definitely helped keep me active during the pregnancy and I think it helped my recovery. |
OP here - thanks for the suggestions! Does VHC just list their classes online or is it through a third-party provider? |
I took yoga at Sun and Moon and loved it. The arlington location is right off 66 and Spout Run.
I am taking yoga in Herndon this time, b/c it's much closer to me... I didn't like the yoga class thru Inova... |
14:56 poster here - They're posted online and you can register online. www.virginiahospitalcenter.com FWIW, I'm currently taking a Baby and Me Yoga Class there now on Friday mornings, and even at that time, parking hasn't been too bad. |
I just checked VHC and their classes started last week. The only classes with room still available are Sunday at 11 at VHC, and Tuesday at 6:15 at the Carlin Spring locations. Neither worked for me, so I'll have to wait for the next round in a couple of months. |
I think the VHC sessions run for 6 weeks with a 2 week break between sessions, so the next session should start in about 2 months.
Good luck! |
I highly recommend Jennifer Moore with Moore Than Yoga!
www.moorethanyoga.com She is absolutely fabulous and teaches classes in Arlington. |
If you're already familiar with yoga and think you might want to do some prenatal yoga at home I recommend the DVD "Prenatal Yoga Vinyasa with Jennifer Wolfe". I really liked the DVD and thought I got a decent workout using it. They have 3 women demonstrating - one for each trimester, so you know how to modify your practice as your pregnancy progresses. |
